Here are some photos from the second day at Nantes. from the weekend before. We went on a walk fairly early in the morning to look for breakfast and it was already warm and the chateaux was gleaming in the sunlight! Then we had another look around the shops before having lunch at a Moroccan restaurant that was really great, the portions were huge, which we really didn't expect and the staff was really kind. We also found the Sunday market, which was madness! People rubbing shoulders going every way possible, vendors trying to promote their exotic fruits, fish stalls, shoe stalls, everything you could dream of! And with a few more hours to kill, we went to the botanical park that is just across the train station. I have not yet seen an ugly botanical park in France and this one didn't change that! When we finally got on the train, I took a good long nap. I was so tired, after all the days spent inside studying I really lost my habit of walking around. But hopefully I will regain it this summer!

You all know that I'm a shoeaholic. Really, I spend regularly at least one hour a day at these days to look at the shoes on internet. So, I stopped by www.tidestore.com today and found some amazing shoes that I had overlooked before. They were all crying "Buy me, buy me". I really don't know what to choose because I'm in need of a new swimming suit. They have an amazing collection, 10 points from me for the range of products. Thanks to this now I'm totally confused! What should I buy? Should I give priority to my needs or I should buy one more pair of shoes for my shoes collection? I have to listen to my heart in this case.

Yep, dark green is still one of my favorite colors.
Ok, ok, pompous title, I know, don't take my throat for it! (Pun intended). Perhaps some will say that this post is overdue, or that the subject has been exhausted sometime in late 2011, that high fashion has gotten over its goth period. But the fact remains that these styles are my all time favorites! And every season we still get the awkward little dress that is the rebellious child of the collection. Pretty flowers and pastel chiffon are all great and I love them too (sometimes), but they're just that. They come and go, each spring with a slightly different tint. But black lace will never get old and it still has the class it had 100 years ago, if worn properly. And yes, vampires have had their spotlight in television, in literature and in fashion and now people seem to be getting over them. Which is why it's a perfect moment to make a review of some of the most gorgeous gowns created! And keep in mind that this text is meant to be read lightheartedly.
Ok, intro aside, lets look at some dresses, shall we?
First place obviously goes to Alexander McQueen. Choose just one dress to feature from him? Impossible. Season after season, I was counting how many more kidneys I have to grow and sell to buy one of those gowns. If you want to see true mastery of the use of lace, this is where you have to look! In his short life, Alexander McQueen has created unique beauties and, thankfully, the brand was carried on nicely by Sarah Burton.
Fall 2013 - "The queen of all undead. In this world, white is for royalty"
Pre Fall 2013 - "Did the priest visit? Because I'd repent any day for a coat like that!"
Spring 2012 - "A dress already printed with red so bloodstains won't show after feeding time"
Fall 2008 - "Red cape and slippers for a stay at home night"
Fall 2006 - "A casual tartan dress to go out in the night and an ethereal white lace gown for the midnight ball"
Now lets move on to other designers before all of this post becomes about Alexander McQueen (Which it kind of has already. No matter, we'll save what we can). No more ranking because it's a bit difficult from here on. But notable names that have shown some consistency with darker looks are Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier, some of the Valentino collections and, later, Ulyana Sergeenko. Add Vivienne Westwood in there too (you know, for the vampires that have rebelled against the aristocratic system).
Valentino A/W 2013 - "Misty black voiles for a perfect blend into darkness"
Ulyana Sergeenko S/S 2013 - "The spoiled kid of the pack, the youngling that likes to look innocent but is really a beast at heart"
Valentino A/W 2012 - "Royal blue and alluring cutouts"
Gucci Fall 2012 - "Red like blood. With ruffles"
Jean Paul Gaultier S/S 2011 - "Everyone needs at least one striped item of clothing. That goes for the undead too"
Christian Lacroix Fall 2008 - "Who said that creatures of darkness can't wear colors?"

There you have it, some of my favorite gowns from past catwalks. There would be so many more to add, but then the broadband would implode. And besides these famous designers, there are also the "smaller" (or better said, less famous) ones that also have created and still create unique pieces. Plus the editorials with different stylings and locations. But about all that, in another article.
Remember me telling you how I wanted to go to Paris last weekend but I couldn't? Well, I went somewhere else instead: to Nantes. Two hours on the train and there I was, closer to the ocean. The first day is also the story of how my crooked legs got to be on show when they weren't intended. Since me whining constantly about the rain and cold seems to have paid off (I think the gods were tired of hearing me and decided to give me a sunny day), by the time I got off the train and to the hotel, my feet were cooking in the black tights I had on. So off they went. Needless to say, long walk + no socks + closed shoes = omfg I have a huge sore blister on my pinky toe! Aaaand I pulled a Marilyn Monroe moment when I passed over a street vent. Whoops! Not many people around, thankfully!
Now back to the serious stuff, Nantes is a lovely city. Really big! I've said that I might move there after I finish university. Extra points for also being where HellFest is held. And there are so many places to see! My top favorites were the botanical park right across the street from the train station, Le Passage Pommeraye, which is this gorgeous shopping gallery with classical decor, huge columns and lots of victorian detail and finally, La Cigale, that you can not pass by without going in for a café gourmand or ice cream and to admire the breathtaking Art Nouveau decoration, it's truly as if you stepped back in time to the 1890s.
